Stone Ridge Academy‘s Adapted physical education is an individualized program of instruction created for students with disabilities that enables success in physical education. In the context of APE, "adapt" means "to adjust" or "to fit" modifications to meet the needs of students. (APE) is a diversified program of developmental activities, games, sports, and rhythmical movements suited to the interests, capacities, and abilities of students with disabilities, who may not safely or successfully engage in unrestricted participation in the activities of the general physical education program. Ultimately, our desire is that each student’s life be enriched by participation in lifetime movement, recreation, leisure, and sports activities at home and in the community. We strive to give our students the skills and experiences to make that happen.
MISSION STATEMENT
It is the goal of the adapted physical education program to prepare each student for a lifetime of physical activity, health, and well-being, both inside and outside of Stone Ridge Academy the teaching of a high-quality standards-based instructional program in a safe and positive environment.
